DigiBharata In an Interview with Abhishek Shah, CEO of Testlify
What inspired you to start Testlify?
I faced a significant obstacle as founder and recruiter at HNR Tech, a WebApp and MobileApp Development company. Finding qualified applicants for the tech and non-tech positions I needed to fill was difficult.
There were no reliable, reasonably priced platforms for assessments that might serve as a one-stop shop. The market’s options were either ineffective or too expensive. I became aware of how flawed the hiring process was as a result of this fight.
At that point, Testlify’s concept began to take shape. I’ve seen that businesses frequently have trouble identifying qualified applicants without prejudice. Additionally, I discovered that hiring decisions based solely on resumes were no longer effective.
Anyone can tweak or lie on a resume, and studies show that 67% of candidates do. I wanted to change that by focusing on skills instead of resumes. This led me to create Testlify, a platform that uses data-driven insights to help companies make better hiring decisions and reduce biases in the process.
How does Testlify simplify the hiring process for companies?
Testlify automates important hiring processes. It allows employers to evaluate applicants based on their suitability for the position.
Testlify removes the uncertainty with its more than 2000 pre-built tests, comprehensive analytics and reporting, and integrations. Sorting through resumes is no longer necessary.
We also examine behavioral, cultural, psychometric, and analytical abilities, among other things. The recruiter will have a comprehensive grasp of the candidates thanks to these exams.
What’s the unique value Testlify offers compared to competitors?
Testlify is unique because we prioritize accuracy and ease of use. It goes beyond simply providing test results. We give recruiters useful information to help them make better choices. Whether you are a recruiter or a candidate, our platform is incredibly user-friendly.
Our ability to easily interface with other hiring tools, which further streamlines the process, is one of our unique selling points.
We also give businesses the ability to customize exams to meet their unique requirements. Testlify becomes a reliable partner for more intelligent, accurate hiring with these adaptable features and cutting-edge anti-cheating techniques.
What are your priorities when building a team at Testlify?
I seek out individuals who share our goals and are enthusiastic and flexible. Although skills may always be gained, what counts are shared values and the correct mindset.
I need a staff that can swiftly adjust to customer needs and maintain focus under duress because Testlify moves quickly.
Additionally, I think that a culture of support should be established so that everyone can develop and change the world. Our group has consistently pursued a customer-centric strategy.
How do you ensure Testlify stays innovative in recruitment tech?
I think staying ahead of trends and paying attention to the market are essential to innovation. We iterate and collect user input continuously at Testlify. We make R&D investments to include cutting-edge technologies.
This method enables us to provide innovative solutions. We are constantly searching for methods to improve our product, which entails adding new, sophisticated features.
Chat simulation, Google Sheets/Docus/Slides simulation, AI-powered video interview questions, and many other features have been introduced recently.
What has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced as a founder?
The most challenging aspect has been expanding while keeping our quality standards high. We went from having no team to having over 80 members in just 24 months. Such rapid expansion might be chaotic.
To handle everything without being distracted, extensive preparation was required. We managed it by hiring the appropriate people, streamlining our operations, and staying true to our vision.
How do you keep Testlify aligned with market demands?
I think the answer is straightforward: pay attention to our customers. We proactively solicit input and listen to their opinions. We take it seriously if they think something is missing. In addition, we monitor hiring patterns and changes in the industry.
We can enhance our features and ensure that we’re addressing actual issues by doing this. Staying ahead of the market and influencing it is more important than simply keeping up with it. We excel at analyzing competitors as well. We try to create a product that is ten times better than anything that is already on the market.
What role does AI play in Testlify’s services?
The foundation of Testlify is AI, which improves hiring efficiency and intelligence. AI comes with several conventional features.
Hiring managers may start with ease thanks to features like AI-powered assessment creation depending on any role and industry. They can choose from a library of pre-made questions or create their exams.
Additionally, Testlify offers time-saving AI-graded tools including text questions, video and audio interviews, and chat simulations. Because AI eliminates bias, candidates are chosen only based on their skills, ensuring a fair procedure.
Additionally, it offers real-time insights and results, such as forecasting an individual’s potential performance in a role, which speeds up and improves the accuracy of the hiring process overall.
How do you balance scalability with maintaining quality?
It all comes down to creating the appropriate systems, in my opinion. We concentrate on automating chores that can be automated because things can easily fall when you grow quickly. In this manner, the group may concentrate on the most important things, such as client satisfaction and quality.
To ensure that everything goes without a hitch, we also establish precise procedures. We also keep checking. As we grow, client feedback helps us determine whether we’re still operating effectively.
What’s the most rewarding moment you’ve had at Testlify?
I find that hearing from clients about how much we’ve benefited them is the most fulfilling. One business informed us that they used Testlify to reduce their hiring time by 60%.
Hearing that we’ve had such a significant impact is tremendously satisfying. It makes me remember why we set out on this adventure.
Reaching $1M ARR in just 28 months was another proud milestone. It demonstrated that not only does our solution address actual issues, but our customers also adore it. I can’t express how it feels to know that what we created is influencing businesses. These kinds of moments make all the effort worthwhile.
What’s your vision for Testlify in the next few years?
I envision Testlify emerging as the global standard for skills-based recruiting. To make the hiring process even more accurate and efficient, we aim to continuously refine our AI.
Additionally, I want us to reach more businesses worldwide and assist them in hiring more intelligently and fairly. I believe it all comes down to improving recruiting practices for all parties.
How do you handle setbacks in a fast-moving industry?
Failures are only a natural part of the process. It comes naturally to an entrepreneur. I attempt to view them as teachings. I remind myself to remain composed and identify the root of the problem if something goes wrong.
After that, we make adjustments to guarantee that it doesn’t occur again. It helps to be adaptable and to keep an eye on the wider picture.
We had several difficulties when we originally launched Testlify, but we persisted. We continued to advance, picking up lessons from every failure, and today Testlify is in the top 10. Everything is a part of the trip.
What trends do you see shaping the future of recruitment tech?
Automation and artificial intelligence will be very important. Instead of using standard resumes, companies will increasingly use skills-based recruiting.
Another major focus is diversity, and technologies to assist businesses in minimizing recruiting prejudices will advance. Additionally, I believe that applicants will have more individualized experiences, which will streamline and interest them in the process.
What advice would you give to companies looking to improve their hiring process?
Focus on actual talents rather than simply credentials, is my straightforward suggestion. Resumes are readily falsified and provide little insight into a candidate’s conduct, cultural fit, or critical soft skills like leadership and communication.
The talents that are truly important for the work must be evaluated. You can see a candidate’s actual ability much more thanks to skills tests.
They also lessen the possibility of prejudice, which frequently infiltrates conventional recruiting practices. You can hire the appropriate individuals and make more objective judgments by utilizing data-driven technologies. Make sure your hiring process is straightforward for candidates; technology can help you save time and select better candidates.
How do you personally stay inspired and focused as a CEO?
Testlify is assisting businesses with hiring. I’m very inspired to keep going after hearing those success tales. I also keep in touch with my staff, listening to their thoughts, which frequently opens my eyes.
I make specific goals and take quick pauses to refuel to maintain my concentration. Additionally, I believe that growing as a leader is greatly aided by learning from the experiences of others.
